Hold and Resume Orders
Holding orders is useful when a customer needs more time, a table wants to add items later, or staff need to switch tasks without losing the cart.
When to Use Hold
- Customer leaves the counter temporarily.
- Dine-in table wants to order more before payment.
- Staff need to pause checkout to help another customer.
- Agree with the team when a held order should be sent for preparation; holding an order is not a guarantee that nothing has printed.
Good Practices
- Add a clear note or customer name when possible.
- Resume and close held orders before end of shift.
- Do not use held orders as a replacement for unpaid tabs unless your business process allows it.
- Review held orders before closing the day so reports stay accurate.
